Course objectives

  • Comprehending the continuity of treatment of trauma patients in a trauma system
  • Studying the structures involved in the various phases of treatment
  • Developing a model of a trauma system appropriate for the student's country of origin
  • Mass casualty preparedness

3. Injury prevention and control: importance and protocols
4. Pre-hospital system: treatment, triage, transport, communication, quality assurance
5. Treatment in the trauma center
    a. Acute phase: admitting area, operating room
    b. Sub-acute phase: intensive care units: general, neurosurgery, pediatrics
    c. Long-term phase: surgical departments: general, maxillofacial,orthopedic, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, etc.
6. Rehabilitation
7. Steps in developing a specific national trauma system
8. Inter-connections in trauma system, pre-hospital-hospital; intra-hospital; inter-hospital; government
9. Mass casualty situations
10. Guidelines and protocol: initial assessment and treatment of a single patient
11. Quality assurance
12. Research
13. The place of the Medical Corps of the Israel Defence Forces in the trauma system in Israel
